My first labor was rough. It lasted over thirty hours and required two epidurals -- after the first one fell out! I was convinced that future pregnancies would also require an epidural, and the idea of natural child birth was for ‘suckers.’ However, after a friend mentioned hypnobirthing, I was intrigued and did a Google search. It piqued my interest enough to give it a try. I figured that if nothing else, it would be a fun activity my husband and I could do together and it couldn’t hurt to learn a few relaxation techniques.
Unfortunately, between a one year old at home and my husband’s crazy schedule, going to a group class was not possible. We searched further and found Diana. She was willing to come to our home and offer private classes.
Little by little, breath by breath, video after video, intertwined with Diana's soft, nonjudgmental, relaxing, knowledgeable, reassuring guidance and education, I was becoming a believer that it just might work.
Three years later we have had 2 hypnobirth babies with Diana. The second labor was three hours and the third about 30 minutes!! In fact, the third birth progressed so quickly that I had to sign the consent for vaginal birth with one hand and nurse my new born baby with the other.
I learned through Diana that most of the pain felt during labor is caused by our own fear. In fact most women in the hospital who are having trouble with their labor the doctors will term it FTP failure to progress. Diana taught me it really stands for Fear Tension and Pain. With the knowledge of hypnobirthing and Diana constant support (and of course the love of my husband and family) I had virtually no fear.
Diana said to call her any time day or night throughout the pregnancy even for just a small question or doubt- so as to not let anything build up and worry me.
Hypnobirthing also made it easier on my body. Post partum in the hospital, every nurse who came in to check me independently said that she could not believe how my quickly body healed. They said it did not even look like I just had a baby. Not only were there no tears, there was not even much swelling. Everything went right back to normal! This is one of the claims of hypnobirths, so it wasn't just my body.
I am so thankful to Diana for her love and education with Hypnobirthing. What she taught me has not only changed my birthing experience, but also it changed my confidence in myself which continues to affect my daily life.
